Me, 2009. Photo taken by Bob Geal.

Hi,

I am Mike Munro, an aspiring photographer. I am interested mainly in Street, Candid and People-Working photography, improving my Black and White, and as I am aspiring, i take photos of anything that grabs my attention.

My photographic hero’s are: Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Mapplethorp, Dorothea Lange, Horst P Horst, Edward Weston errrr and a few more…I am open to adding to the list…. I have a huge (according to my family) collection of books (and magazines) on photographers and photographic technique. I go to any exhibition I can, including Art exhibitions, to look at the way composition works.

I started this blog as an adjunct to studying for a degree in photography, to learn from others and improve my photo taking by getting non-family people to critique my efforts, and to have fun! I am also enjoying the stats / seeing my pictures on the web.

I am also learning how photo-blogging (well just blogging) works, so any advice is welcome.

I am Chief Cook and Bottle Washer working from home looking after my wonderful wife and dodging my many children.

I live just outside Newbury in West Berkshire, England.

Anything else you want to know, I respond to any and all comments, please make them.

Mike

It is…and you have some lovely photos, I am always looking for people to learn from, to get ideas from… I have been a photographer (I claim that title lol), for years, back into film days… Really caught the digital-photography-bug though….and now proud owner of a Fuji X-Pro1… It is definitely addictive, I try to get out every day… i need a fix!!!

I use a nikon when I’m out on a mission as it were, but find it heavy so for a daily I just use a sony pocket cam. Though it’s now getting close to past it’s prime. I’m not out everyday with my nikon, Jajaja, I’m afraid to get mugged for my camera :/

ahhh I had an old nikon f years ago…excellent… I was using a Leica R9 good but very heavy..swapped over to the X-Pro1 because I couldn’t afford the Leica M9240) and the Fuji got very good reviews on the jpegs in particular… Its taken some learning but now getting the hang of it… its a lot less conspicuous than the big DSLR, so less fear of mugging…

Hi Shane, thanks for the comments. Yes, I am familiar with Karsh, I am a big fan of the older 1920 / 1930 / 1940’s black and white photographers..

Cheers
